I have always been something of a night owl. My mom has told me tales of her seemingly endless rounds of solitaire she played when I was baby as she struggled to get me to sleep.
Even in grade school, I have no idea how many sheep and bottles of pop I've counted while trying to make myself tired. In middle school, I discovered that listening to music can occasionally help. (Just don't try whisper singing as people will think you are crying. That was an awkward moment.) In high school, I found drawing can sometimes make me drowsy. And as an adult, I found that reading late at night is a two edged sword. I get tired but I need to know what happens in the next chapter otherwise I am going to dream about the book.
Sometimes, I just crash out in my bed. No need to make me tired. Most of the time, though, I struggle to sleep at a decent hour. 2 to 3 am is normal for me to still be wired.
Being the only one awake isn't as scary as it used to be when I was younger. It is the quietest time in our home. Sometimes I just savor the quiet. After all, it is rare.
All that said, I still dislike things that keep me from my bed. Like tornado sirens. Yes, It is 2 in the morning. Yes, I was already awake. But I want to lay in my warm bed. Not shelter in my damp, chilly basement. It's almost as upsetting as those rare moments of true insomnia that I get. The kind where you get to see the sun rise (such a lovely thing, really) and hear all your neighbors start their day (I want mine to end already). The cranky bitterness of a lost night of sleep is mildly depressing so I won't dwell on it.
Long story short, I do like sleep. I just struggle to get mine at a decent time and deal with obstacles like weather related events and rare bouts of insomnia. As always, feel free to leave me a message below.

And that concludes our adventure in this year's songs. As always, feel free to leave me a message below.
The other day I was going through my books when I came across one that was 401 pages long. First thought that went through my head,"Oh, this is a day read ". Second thought," When did this become a day read?"
At some point, I found getting through 1000+ pages more challenging and fun. I get a kick at seeing how far I can go in a day. Especially if the plot is juicy and intriguing.
My siblings look at me like I am a weirdo. To the I read inhumanly fast. They prefer to have me read stuff separately from them instead of by their side as I tend to finish a page way before them. At least I respect their pace.
Below are the two dramas that my sisters decided to piggyback off of me when I was watching them. I hope you can enjoy them in your spare time. My sisters sure did.
A Girl Who Sees Smells
3 years ago, a man lost his younger sister in the "Bar Code" murder case. Since then he has lost his senses. A girl miraculously survived the "Bar code" murder case. Since then, she has lost her memory, but also has gained the ability to see smells.
This is the older show that LS2 kept laying on my feet in order to watch. Despite how dark that snipit of a synopsis was, it has a lot of comedic parts. The blend of Drama, Comedy, and Romance make this series gold. Makes me a little angry at myself for taking so long to it.
Siren's Kiss
Han Seol-Ah works as a chief auctioneer and leader of an auction team at Royal Auction, the best art auction company in South Korea. She looks flawless, with a beautiful appearance and a seductive charm. She also has a chilling secret. Her secret is that all the men who loved her have died.
Meanwhile, Cha Woo-Seok is an investigator for an insurance company. He is an ace investigator, with keen observation and insight skills. He has also held the highest insurance fraud arrest rate in the industry for years. One day, he receives a tip from a phone call that will shake his reason. After that, he begins to investigate Han Seol-Ah as a suspect in a series of insurance fraud death cases.
LS1 kept sliding up to my side as I was watching this one. This series is intense so be prepared to be sweaty and/or need a emotional support pillow to squeeze. I enjoyed this one so much.
The other day I wasn't feeling so well. I didn't feel like reading but wanted to do something to pass the time. So I tried to watch a new series (new to me, it's actually kinda old).
So, I started watching it. LS2 was in the room listening to an audio book. Somehow, she ended up right by my side, laughing and exclaiming with me. By episode 2, two more siblings joined me.
All while this is happening, I am asking myself " Why are you coming now?" They pretty near abandoned the series we were working on to watch shows with LB3. I want to finish it but I don't know if they will come for that. Though to be honest, it did reach a slight slump. But they should push through and stop laying on my legs to see what I am watching. Now I can't finish that show without her.
At the time I write this, my toes are as cold as it is outside. LB2 and I went for a walk today and I am still trying to warm back up. But I noticed a curious thing as we walked. I saw signs that spring is around the corner.
I saw the little nubs of our peonies poking cautious little heads out the ground. I saw baby iris blades tentatively revealing themselves. And young daffodils showing their greenery. Lb2 said it was a bit early for them to be showing up. "Them" being the daffodils.
He said the peonies must have loved all the snow and cold we got this winter. That was probably why their nubs were poking out. We might have big luscious blooms this spring. He also mentioned that it was normal to see iris blades this early.
I enjoy looking at the seasons change around me. Watching the world around me come alive each spring is a experience I don't want to take for granted. As always, feel free to leave me a message below.
I like to watch (and
occasionally read) Shakespeare's plays. Not so much his tragedies as
they can be super depressing but definitely his comedies. Though
sometimes I wish the endings were a tad different or that I could see
the story from a different point of view. That is why I will
introduce you to the books below. So those of you who longed for the
same thing can have some book fun. All blurbs are from Goodreads.
Don't Tame the Tomboy by Ye Seula
“I’d rather not marry than lower my eyes!”
Katya, the notorious villainess from the southern region, declares her opposition to marriage!
The Duke sets up an intense showdown with his daughter, who rejects every suitor that comes her way.
Caught in a crisis of being forced into marriage with the scoundrel Petrozsky, Katya decides to make her escape.
During her escape, she ends up spending an unexpected night with a man she encounters…
He turns out to be the tyrant Grand Duke Nikolai de Vasily.
“At the moment you stood in my way, I couldn’t breathe.”
“Well, then why don’t you visit the asylum, sir?”
“For someone like me, a madman, you need to be at least as crazy to control me.”
“Are you looking for… a bride or a caretaker?”
“With you, I think both are possible.”
In her attempt to avoid one madman, she becomes entangled with an even crazier one!
Is this a choice based on reality?
“If I ask for a divorce, you’ll kill me.”
“What do I have to gain by doing that?”
“I don’t know… A sense of conquest?”
“I’d like you to conquer me a little.”
“Obedient wife, doting mother, that sort of thing, I’ve had enough of that in this life.”
“I like you just the way you are. Does that answer your question?”
Don’t tame the tomboy.
She’s pretty enough the way she is.
A The Taming of the Shrew
Romantic Fantasy reimagining. What if Kate married someone who built
her up and helped her grow instead of someone who tore her down and
rebuilt her into his idea of a dream girl? That is the premise of
this novel.
Lady Macbeth's Daughter by
Lisa Klein
The daughter Macbeth might have had, if Shakespeare had thought to create her Albia
has grown up with no knowledge of her mother or her father, the
powerful Macbeth. Instead she knows the dark lure of the Wychelm Wood
and the moors, where she's been raised by three strange sisters. It's
only when the ambitious Macbeth seeks out the sisters to foretell his
fate that Albia's life becomes tangled with the man who leaves nothing
but bloodshed in his wake. She even falls in love with Fleance,
Macbeth's rival for the throne. Yet when Albia learns that she has the
second sight, she must decide whether to ignore the terrible future she
foresees or to change it. Will she be able to save the man she loves
from her murderous father? And can she forgive her parents their wrongs,
or must she destroy them to save Scotland from tyranny?
In her highly anticipated follow-up to Ophelia, Lisa Klein delivers a powerful reimagining of Shakespeare's Macbeth, featuring a young woman so seamlessly drawn it seems impossible she was not part of the Bard's original play.
What if Macbeth had a
child, a daughter, who was cast aside? Filled with disgust and gifted
with the Sight, she sets out to right the wrong of her DNA donor. The
novel is full of history and Scottish lore.
Ophelia by Lisa Klein
He is Hamlet, Prince of Denmark; she is simply Ophelia. If you think you know their story, think again.
In
this reimagining of Shakespeare's famous tragedy, it is Ophelia who
takes center stage. A rowdy, motherless girl, she grows up at Elsinore
Castle to become the queen's most trusted lady-in-waiting. Ambitious for
knowledge and witty as well as beautiful, Ophelia learns the ways of
power in a court where nothing is as it seems. When she catches the
attention of the captivating, dark-haired Prince Hamlet, their love
blossoms in secret. But bloody deeds soon turn Denmark into a place of
madness, and Ophelia's happiness is shattered. Ultimately, she must
choose between her love for Hamlet and her own life. In desperation,
Ophelia devises a treacherous plan to escape from Elsinore forever . . .
with one very dangerous secret.
Lisa Klein's Ophelia
tells the story of a young woman falling in love, searching for her
place in the world, and finding the strength to survive. Sharp and
literary, dark and romantic, this dramatic story holds readers in its
grip until the final, heartrending scene.
A retelling of Hamlet where
Ophelia lives. Though to be honest, many people debate whether she
actually died in the original. Most lean towards that but I like to
think she made out alive. This ones for those who think the same.
Prince of Shadows by Rachel
Caine
In
the Houses of Montague and Capulet, there is only one goal: power. The
boys are born to fight and die for honor and—if they survive—marry for
influence and money, not love. The girls are assets, to be spent wisely.
Their wishes are of no import. Their fates are written on the day they
are born.
Benvolio Montague, cousin to Romeo, knows all this. He
expects to die for his cousin, for his house, but a spark of rebellion
still lives inside him. At night, he is the Prince of Shadows, the
greatest thief in Verona—and he risks all as he steals from House
Capulet. In doing so, he sets eyes on convent-bound Rosaline, and a
terrible curse begins that will claim the lives of many in Verona…
… And will rewrite all their fates, forever.
A retelling of Romeo and
Juliet from the point of view of Benvolio, Romeo's cousin. Yep, this
dude is a master thief known as The Prince of Shadows. I haven't had
the chance to read this one yet but it is in my TBR pile so I should
get to it one day........
A Daughter of Fair Verona
by Christina Dodd
Knives Out meets Bridgerton in Fair Verona, as New York Times
bestselling author Christina Dodd kicks off a frothy, irreverent, witty
new series with an irresistible premise—Romeo and Juliet’s daughter as a
clever, rebellious, fiercely independent young woman in fair
Verona—told from the delightfully engaging point of view of the
captivating Rosie Montague herself…
Once upon a time a young
couple met and fell in love. You probably know that story, and how it
ended (hint: badly). Only here’s the thing: That’s not how it ended at
all.
Romeo and Juliet are alive and well and the parents of seven
kids. I’m the oldest, with the emphasis on ‘old’—a certified spinster
at twenty, and happy to stay that way. It’s not easy to keep your taste
for romance with parents like mine. Picture it—constant monologues,
passionate declarations, fighting, making up, making out . . . it’s
exhausting.
Each time they’ve presented me with a betrothal, I’ve
set out to find the groom-to-be a more suitable bride. After all,
someone sensible needs to stay home and manage this household. But their
latest match, Duke Stephano, isn’t so easy to palm off on anyone else.
The debaucher has had three previous wives—all of whom met unfortunate
ends. Conscience forbids me from consigning another woman to that fate.
As it turns out, I don’t have to . . .
At our betrothal
ball—where, quite by accident, I meet a beautiful young man who makes me
wonder if perhaps there is something to love at first sight—I stumble
upon Duke Stephano with a dagger in his chest. But who killed him? His
late wives’ families, his relatives, his mistress, his servants—half of
Verona had motive. And when everyone around the Duke begins dying,
disappearing, or descending into madness, I know I must uncover the
killer . . . before death lies on me like an untimely frost.
Romeo and Juliet didn't die
here! Instead, the very dramatic couple had a family and their very
love jaded and snarky daughter is our narrator. We have comedy,
mystery and a dash of reluctant romance. Let's hang out with Rosie!
Sidenote: This is an ongoing series so I haven't started it yet.
I hope you all found a
future book to jump into from one of the books I mentioned today. As
always, feel free to leave me a message below.
LB3 and I have an ongoing
prank war. It starts pretty petty. He calls me "little
sister"(totally ignoring the fact I'm older) or I poke him. Then
we're off. The back and forth can last for days and I don't even
remember who won last time.
If I'm honest, I enjoy it.
I can't explain why. I just know that even though we try our best to
one up each other, we have each other's back just as much.
But I am still devoted to
winning. As older sister, I have an image to maintain. Like, they may
be bigger, taller and stronger than me but that doesn't mean I can be
pushed around. I can hold my own. So what if he towers over me?
If it's not to much to ask,
can you stop exploring my room after midnight? Also, can you not fly
into my ear? I almost killed you. Why were casually strolling on my
PJs? Again, almost killed you.
Please just rest somewhere
not on my body. It's late and I don't have the energy to play with
you. I want to rest, not hunt for your tiny body in my bed. That's
not my idea of a good night.
I do hope you are still
alive. I was too tired to keep looking for your body. Here's to
another night where you hopefully act more like the other ladybugs I
came across in the house. I do thank you for not slamming your body
into my light. That was nice.
Sincerely,
Your Reluctant Roommate
P.S. I don't want to cuddle
with you. So stop trying to crawl all over my body.
The other night, my father
was so eager to watch season 4 of Bridgerton that he started watching
it without my mother. They had planned to watch it together but.....
What can I say? It has good writing.
I was telling LB2 that
there is not enough money in this world that would make me to a
Bridgerton Watch Party with my father. In all truth and honesty, I
can sit next to him and watch the entire Godfather Trilogy. Just not
Bridgerton. If I was with my besties, we would squee through those
parts. But with my Father......just open up a hole for me to slip
into.
This is the man who covered
my eyes during a kiss scene in a PG13 movie, who would yell out "Bad
Word" whenever someone cussed on TV, who let me stand on his
feet as he danced around the living room, who used to tell me I
couldn't date until I was 30 (Huh, maybe that is why I'm still
single?), and who then gave me the world's most awkward dating advice
(I think we both wanted the moment to end and No, I will not share
what was said). I get that my Father might have a romantic side. I
just don't think either of us would be comfortable with me seeing it.
He is my Dad. I'll let my mom handle that. Just as my title said, we
can be fans separately.
I promise you all that I truly am not in to decapitation. Honestly,
I'm not. I just so happened to have read this book around the same
time as Losing Your Head.
Elise Sax is a talented writer who writes cozy mysteries and
contemporary romance. Both are delightful journeys into fiction but
today I'm going to focus on the Matchmaker Mysteries series. It is a
complete series with its own completed spin-off series.
An Affair to
Dismember Book 1 of the Matchmaker Mysteries series by Elise Sax
Gladie
Burger just entered the Matchmaker business by letting her beloved
Grandma Zelda talk her into becoming a co-owner of her business.
Personally, Gladie has doubts that she can even succeed as a
matchmaker as she has never even been on a date (facts, facts).
When her neighbor across the street dies, Gladie finds more than a
few things weird. No ones mourning his death and his son is putting
holes in the walls of the house looking for "termites".
Like an itch on her brain, she just has to dig deeper to find out
what happened. Only the very hot, very new police chief would rather
she just set people up instead. While a brand new neighbor wants to
set himself up with her. Not that she's complaining about it. But she
really, really, really wants to find out what happened so...... She
should be able to find out how her dead neighbor died, go on a date
with her living neighbor and finally get a match made, right?
Gladie is that bestie who you know will have your back. As long as
she hasn't passed out from seeing a dead body or encountered
something so embarrassing, she's planning on moving into her attic
and never leaving. Which, I for one, totally get. I just have a
higher threshold for embarrassment. Siblings do that to you.
This series is one that I read book one a long time ago. I didn't read more because it's an ongoing series and I hate waiting for the latest book to come out. It's demoralizing to be the sole person counting down the days and hours til a book drops.
Anyway, sorry for the mini-tangent. The Charlie Davies series is currently up to 13 books. The best way to describe Charlie is Hot Mess with anger management issues but in a endearing way. She's that snarky, argumentative bestie who life loves hating on in all the smallest, pettiest ways so she kinda plans how TP life's house and then set the paper on fire while in the heat of the moment (pun not intended). She didn't get to do that but she did key life's car.
Losing Your Head by Clare Kauter Book 1 of The Charlie Davies Mystery Series
Charlie Davies was a 19 year old cashier at small grocery store who is one bad customer away from torching the place. She decides to quit instead. She gets a new job at a private security and investigation firm and weirdly enough her first (very unofficial) investigation is to prove her childhood nemesis innocent of shooting and chopping his cantankerous uncle's head off. You know, normal stuff. Soooo, that's what she sets out to do. Hopefully, without getting herself killed. That's a bad look.
I hope you get to enjoy the madness that is Charlie. As always, feel free to leave me a message below.
I read the first book before it got its current name. I remember
laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. When I saw that Erin Huss
gave that book (and series) a rewrite and a fresh name, I had to read
it.
French Vanilla
& Felonies book 1 of the Cambria Clyne Mystery series
Cambria didn't expect to be framed for murder. She was just trying
to do her job as an apartment manager and you know, avoid eviction.
'Cause being a homeless single mom was not on her to-do list. So
finding out who offed her tenant is topping her to do list. That and
trying to figure out how to be a apartment manager.
So, that is a very short synopsis, courtesy of yours truly. I hold
this story close to my heart as it was one of the first ARCs I
received and reviewed. If you can, give this one a read. It's worth
it.
Sometimes, I like a good mystery. I don't need a nail-biting thriller
that will leave me a sweaty mess (Although I could stand to lose a
pound or three). I need a something warm and cozy. Hello, Cozy
Mysteries!
Gena Showalter and
Jill Monroe's Jill Ladling series is what we will talk about today.
Do you have a mildly inappropriate sense of humor? Do you love retro
fashion? Do you like to watch Ask a Mortician? Are in charge of a
private graveyard? If you answered yes to any (or all) of those
questions, this series is for you. I honestly think Caitlin would
like this series. Just me though.
Romancing the
Gravestone book 1
Jane Ladling is
just doing her Grounds keeper rounds when she comes across a dead
body. Well, a freshly dead body. In a grave. A hundred year old
grave. So, she does what you're supposed to do. Fed her murder cat
and called the sheriff.
She didn't expect
the extremely hot Special Agent Conrad Ryan to show up and
discombobulate her. Now she has a mystery to solve and a family curse
(that exists in her mind alone) to hopefully break.
Jane is best
described using a quote from the book. She is "organized chaos".
She's funny, quirky, cute, and gives secondhand embarrassment out
like it's participating trophies. Jane feels like that quirky friend
who's social filter is half broken. She's adorably awkward.
I also suggest
reading book 5 of the series after book 1 as it tells the tale of
book one from Conrad's POV. His side of things is just as good.
Sometimes being a kid is frustrating. We can't do things grow ups can. But, imagine how hard it would be if you'd been grown when you were isekai'd into a kids body. Here's what I learned from that with my manhwa reading.

Below are some of the lessons I learned from manhwa. You know, in the unlikely event I find myself isekai'd into a novel. Hope you find it enjoyable.
Author of My Own Destiny
If you are the author, maybe try to fix some of crappy storylines you gave your characters.
Father, I Don't Want to Get Married
Dump the scum. And background checks should be a priority. Or not.......
The Male Lead Is Mine
Did book version of you dump the Dreamboat? Don't do it when it's your turn.

My family loves to make fun of my quirks it seems. They're not really mean or anything but it can get annoying sometimes. Like, give a girl a break.
One of mine is my tendency to hyper organize my ebooks. Sometimes I go beyond the genre and author organization and head straight to separating the books by series. My siblings refuse to browse through my books. They say that they have no clue where things are and they would rather I recommend books to them than take a look around my digital library for a new read that peaks their interest. They should be happy I never employed the Dewey Decimal System.
Another quirk that I firmly believe is overreaction on my siblings part is the fact that I am really good at making a cake give 15 slices when 6 was the expected serving size. The kids have banded together and refuse to let me cut anything except fruit. I don't cut meat (i.e. turkey, roasts and such) because I always hack it apart. But I thought the whole cakes and pies thing was fine. Apparently it is not. I have a ban on me. If they see me with a knife about to cut banana bread, they will go out of their way to stop me. Yes, I do feel hurt by that.
As always, feel free to leave me a message below. Tell me about your quirks.
