What is Steampunk?

Earlier today, my mom asked me this question. Steampunk is, according to Wikipedia,
a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.

Did you understand any of that? Yeah, wipe that drool of your face while I break it down further. Steampunk is an off shoot of Scifi. It involves modern-style tech that is (Wait for it, Yes a Hamilton reference!) Steam powered. There is also a lot of corsets (like way too many for my comfort).

Steampunk is also a style. Pics below:

This is some of the less extreme stuff I found. As a book genre, I have only read one and that was a Steampunk meets Bollywood novel named Third Daughter by Susan Kaye Quinn. I haven't read the other too novels in her series, The Royals of Dharia. While I really liked the book , I'm not a fan of the genre so..... sorry?

I felt like you all should know what I think about this genre. I will admit that some of the gowns are cool, but I'd have to be desperate for clothes to put on a corset. I like breathing. And eating. And did I forget to mention breathing?

If any of you, my dear readers, love the style and/or genre, please feel free to tell me all about it. On the flip side, if you hate it with a passion most pure, spill! I'm here to listen. Ciao!
