Rejected Princesses: A Book Review

Last week, Bookbub suggested Rejected Princesses by Jason Porath. I was a might skeptical (nonfiction can be very boring). This, however, was anything but. I was captivated, charmed, amused, and touched by the true stories of women I have never even heard of. When I told my mother about this incredible piece of work, do you know what she said? "They never wanted us to know how strong we really are and can be." Yeah, my mom is so cool, I know. You can't have her.

This book is simply awesome and I am totally going to recommend it to all my family, male and female. Because history shouldn't be one sided and it is not fair that women are seen as the sidekicks or afterthoughts in history books. Women can make history, cause change, and start a revolution. We just need to remember that we are not the first ones and know that we won't be the last. And that is all the Women's Lib you will get from me today.

I want to say thank you to Jason. Thank you for writing about the women we had almost forgotten. Thank you for being the one who acknowledged what women have brought to the table of life, the good, the bad, and the WOEWTET,TCWoW?!?!.  You may never see it, but, there it is.

What's in my bookshelf?

In case anyone was wondering what I've read lately, here you go. If you weren't wondering the you are welcome to read any way. Or not. Totally up to you. Side note: are bath bombs supposed to leave you itchy?

Keeping a baby from the daddy might seem wrong, but it’s the best way to protect herself and her child for now.
Oliver wants answers. Five months ago, he met the woman of his dreams, took her up to his hotel room, made love to her until they both passed out only to wake up alone. He’s hired private investigators but with no last name or photographs, his hookup has remained a mystery. And he doesn’t like mysteries. Or surprises. Oliver knows the Madeleine is the one for him. When he finally finds her, he’s determined to keep her...even if the father of the child isn’t him.

Starts off as a steamy read but some how turns into this really awkward bit of fluff. It had promise. But I think this is gonna be a one time read. How is it supposed to be plausible? I like my romcoms to have some plausibility to it and I had some trouble finding it here. I went on a mini-rant to my mom and all she said was "Then don't read it any more". Very helpful since I just finished it.

There is nothing that makes me get all mushy like reading about strong men falling for little kids and wanting to be their Dad. This is now one of my favorites. A total reread. I want to find a man like that. Except without the druglord. Or the being on the run. Or watching everyone I loved get killed. Or almost dying. You know what, Just scratch that. Never mind, being single is cool.

A Billion Reasons Why by Kenzie Reed

His nickname’s Sexy Satan. For the past three years I’ve called him boss. So why is he telling everyone that he’s my boyfriend? Working for Chase Lancaster was supposed to catapult my marketing career. Instead, I’m trapped in personal assistant hell. This Enemies to Lovers tale is so full of laughs and fun, I dare you to not love it. I know you will and I will win by default. My mom even loved this book. We shared quite a few laughs over Daisy's crazy family.

Susan Elizabeth Phillips

I have just discovered her work and am loving her Chicago Stars/Bonner Brothers series. Being me, I screwed up the order I was supposed to read in. Below is a quick look at what I read in the order I read it. Try not to get too confused.

Nobody's Baby But Mine was a delight. We got a super smart professor who comes up with a really dumb idea. To keep her future child from being a genius like her, she needs a really stupid "donor". The quarterback of a local team seems an ideal choice. When everything backfires in her face, I tell you no lie, it gets intense.

Natural Born Charmer is about a down on her luck artist who befriends a quarterback on his way to check out his new property. With her help, he gets closer to his estranged parents and his half sister. He, on the other hand, helps her with her fear of commitment.

Dream A Little Dream is the sequel to Nobody's Baby But Mine. When the widow of a crooked local televangelist returns with her little boy, all she wants to do is find the money that her husband stole, return it and live off the little extra that may be left. But with the whole town against her, she has no where to turn except towards the owner of the old drive  in theater. He, much against himself, is drawn to the brave widow despite protests from the town and his family.

First Star I See Tonight is about yet another quarterback, one who has retired and opened his own nightclub. He's anything but pleased when he discovers that he's being followed by a PI. Even worse, no matter how much he tries, she won't tell him who hired her. So, he hires her himself which turns out to be a good thing as a lot of crazy things keep happening.

This Heart of Mine is about (wait for it) a Quarterback (yet again) who find love with a children's writer. Their love/hate relationship shifts into one of the sweetest (and occasionally off the wall) stories I've read. He wants nothing to do with his boss's sister yet can't stay away. She knows falling for him is reckless but you only live once, right?

So there it is folks. I hope you get a chance to read one of Susan Elizabeth Phillips' works. I know you'll love it.

Mini-Movie or Music Video Volume 6

Hello everybody! This is the last volume (for now!) of this series. I hope you all have enjoyed it. There are so many videos to choose from but these were the ones that stood out to me. And now, without further ado...

This is a B-video. It would have been a B-movie. That is all I am going to say. Enjoy.

4. Lady Antebellum - I Run To You

Layered film about how they all are connected and you don't find out til the end! Those are my favorites as you can probably tell by now. I love how they show the chain reaction of a single act. OMG, that would the name. A Single Act coming to a theater near you in..... never.

5. Maroon 5 - Animals

This is for all those who love creepy movies about stalkers. I added this for you. I get kinda creeped out . But, you know, if you like this, howl.

6. Miranda Lambert - The House That Built Me

I feel like there should be a movie set all around this one video. This is that pivotal scene where she goes back home to confront her ghosts of the past. It is  just so unsatisfying.

7. Lady Antebellum - What If I Never Get Over You

This would be that movie full of flashbacks as Our main character is facing a huge life change post-breakup. I would have love more details and a dramatic end but we take what we can get, right?

8.   Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me

                              
All the irritating teen movies you made your parents suffer through are now coming back to haunt you. Yes, It is Taylor again. She's got a better video here than earlier.

9. Dan + Shay - From The Ground Up

Sweet and mildly sappy, I know you will love this video.

10. Maroon 5 - Don't Wanna Know

I apologize for the language at the end. But, is this not a comedy film in the making?
