Review Time!

Ok, so I let my brother talk me into watching a movie I normally wouldn't have given the time of day. As you can probably guess, I liked it way more than I thought I would.

Name of the movie? Warrior. I can tell you that I got majorly choked up at the end. Warrior tells the tale of two estranged brothers, each after the $5 million dollar prize as the Sparta middleweight MMA champion. I could go on and on about how this movie is all about forgiveness and family but I won't. You can thank me later. I totally recommend this film. And let's leave it at that.

Another movie I feel needs a shout out is Nappily Ever After. As a biracial gal myself I wholly understand her struggle. I've been natural my whole life. As I write this my head is an enormous puffball. Violet's journey of acceptance is as funny as it is sweet. A must watch for the natural girls around the world, regardless of color. 

In books, I just finished The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jamie Jo Wright. A more nail-biting, edge of your seat, absolutely thrilling christian gothic novel I have yet to read. The dual timeframe used to carry the story only enhances the drama and keeps the story from feeling rushed. Great work, Jamie Jo!

That sounds like me!

Have you ever had a moment where you're reading a book and suddenly you recognize a piece of yourself in your main character? I think it takes a very good writer who can make you feel like that despite obvious differences you and the character may have. It is because of that, we find ourselves emotionally invested in various novels.

We can relate to clumsiness, quirkiness,anger, jealousy and happiness.When the characters are in touch with their emotions and go through their ups and downs, we get that. Even when the characters are in denial, we get that too.

The more human they are, the more invested we get. It doesn't matter if they are Cyborgs, Aliens, or animals. They could be a blob for all we care.All I know is this,the closer the writer gets to human action/reaction and emotion, the better we connect.     

I don't think I will list my doppelganger books today. I just wanted to talk about that a bit.

Jo is one of those beautiful zany characters that is so easy to fall in love with. Her banter with Nate is one of those priceless moment I loved rereading.

Thoughts and more Thoughts

So, I have seen the movie What Men Want. Taraji P. Henson is a trip! I enjoyed it so much. Thank goodness I can't hear my brothers' thoughts (I am shuddering at the thought).

I am rereading Get Well Soon by Jennifer Wright. I really love learning more about Plagues and Diseases. No, I am not weird. Shame on you for thinking so. If you are like me and you want to have a fun time learning more about pestilence, pick this book up.

Now on to a mini rant on My Best Friend's Wedding. Who here thinks it was totally unfair that Julia Roberts is left single at the end? It's a romantic comedy for crying out load and she is our main character. I get that in real life we girls don't always get our man but come on... This is movie, not a therapy session. I want happily ever after, rainbows, and hearts vomiting glitter. Not sadly dancing in my gay best friend's arms. It dawned on me this week how utterly depressing this movie really is. I think I need a whole lot of chocolate to get me through this movie from now on.

I am about to sink my teeth into What Men Want. I will tell you what I think next week. Also, that elevator scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Priceless. Do watch that folks if you get the chance. I think you might enjoy it.

Book Shoutout!

I want to talk real quick about two books I've read recently.


Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors by Sonali Dev is a delicious modern retelling of Jane Austen's most beloved Novel. Dr.Trisha Raje,Neurosurgeon  is our Mr.Darcy. There are times when your heart alternates from bleeding for her and wanting to shake her.  As our Elizabeth Bennet, we have DJ Caine, Chef Extraordinaire. As a male Lizzie, he does a fine job. I want to tell you more but I have a tendency to overshare. I will give away the end in some way, shape, or form. All I will say is this, if you are an Austen fan and love tales involving the blending of different cultures, read this scrumptious book. Like yesterday and thank me later. I read this in one day.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren is a hilarious Rom-Com that needs to be made into a movie. Olive Torres is the bad luck twin. Nothing in her life seems to go right. Ami, in contrast, is the twin who basically won a free wedding. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from the seafood buffet, Ami urges Olive to go on her (free) Honeymoon. The only catch is she has to go with the best man, Ethan Thomas, who just happens to be her nemesis. From there, this story takes you all over Maui as Olive and Ethan encounter bosses and exes and little dark secrets. You will love this book, folks. Trust me.
